Amplifon in Italy hands the servicing and manufacture of hearing instruments over to Siemens Audiology
Siemens Audiology is taking over the servicing and manufacturing department of Amplifon S.p.A. Italy, which deals mainly with Siemens hearing instruments. The take-over, affecting 64 employees, becomes legally effective on 1 May 2009 and covers the manufacture of in-the-ear instruments as well as the repair and servicing of in-the-ear and behind-the-ear instruments. This gives Siemens Audiology immediate access to production capacity of its own in Italy, in addition to the manufacturing facilities it already operates in Europe as in Denmark, Germany, France and Great Britain. In connection with this, Siemens Audiology will be establishing the new national company Siemens Hearing Instruments Srl, which will be part of Siemens Holding S.p.A., Italy
Amplifon is the world’s largest hearing instrument retail chain and in the fiscal year 2008 achieved a turnover of 641 million Euros. In Italy, the company’s single biggest market, Amplifon runs more than 400 points of sale for hearing instruments. This is also where customized housings for in-the-ear instruments have been manufactured and fitted as well as where in-the-ear and behind-the-ear instruments have been repaired and serviced in the past. The majority of the instruments were by Siemens Audiology. The servicing and manufacturing department has now been separated from the company and integrated into the newly established national company Siemens Hearing Instruments Srl.64 Amplifon staff members will be employed here.
Thomas Mettang, director of European sales at Siemens Audiology and a future member of the supervisory board of the new Italian national company, said, “We are pleased to be able to further expand our core competency as the world’s largest manufacturer of innovative hearing instruments on the Italian market. This strengthens the many years of successful collaboration between Siemens Audiology and Amplifon.”
