Accessories for Hearing Aid Wearers
Hearing aids are great. They make it easier for folks with hearing loss to hold conversations, enjoy music, and participate in work meetings and social gatherings. But sometimes, using hearing aids alone just isn’t enough. That’s where hearing aid accessories come in.
Examples of hearing aid accessories
Many accessories are available to hearing aid wearers and can be used to do everything from control your hearing aid settings to help you connect wirelessly to Bluetooth®-enabled audio devices. Some are actual devices, while others are downloadable apps. Here are just a few examples:
- Remote controls/apps. These come in models that can fit in a pocket or as apps that can be downloaded to your smartphone. They allow you to make discreet adjustments to your hearing programs, volume controls, and bass and treble.
- Audio streamers. Some of these hearing aid accessories can be worn like jewelry. They allow you to stream the audio from devices like tablets, MP3 players, and smartphones directly into your hearing aids —basically transforming your hearing aids into a pair of high-tech earphones.
- Rechargeable hearing aids support a “green” environment and save you the time, cost, and effort of fussing with tiny hearing aid batteries regularly. Hearing aid chargers juice your hearing aids overnight while also cleaning and drying them, so your hearing aids are ready to work all day long by morning. An added advantage —rechargeable batteries only need to be changed about once a year, rather than weekly like standard batteries.
- Especially useful for kids in school or anyone in a loud environment like a conference center or restaurant trying to hear an individual’s speech. The microphone routes a speaker’s voice through the transmitter that captures audio from non-Bluetooth devices and sends the signal into your streamer accessory. The result is clear, unimpeded speech you can hear no matter how noisy the environment around you.
